I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

My life non profit, service church and family Ann NYC and east coast. Don't think any of that is,ore important than Google. My life shouldn't revolve around work
It is Google. Get over it and move. You can try to come back to NYC in a few years
I had this same exact offer and situation - I declined, living in Cali is ridiculously expensive, I have a mortgage and two rental properties in DC. It didn’t make sense for me to go so I declined, so I regret it? Some days when my project at ATK sucks but most of the time I see my bank account and realize I’m clearing way more than I would be if I were paying rent in NorCal so I’m Good with the decision
Your life is in the east coast and they didn’t respect that. That’s a bad start already.
Damn google just thinking they can do whatever
I would explain just that (outside the last sentence)
^This. Make sure you are mentally ready to throw the offer in case it comes to that. There is no going back.
Isn't Google still only hiring sales/marketing for non CA locations? Used to be that all product management and other jobs require relo to Sunnyvale.
Sounds like red flags of the job ahead. I really don’t get why everyone wet dreams over Google
Thanks for all advice it's people analyst role. I told them over again and they said would be fine until next Friday.
This is a Manager decision. Speak directly with the hiring manager about it. I know someone who relocated to MTV but left her husband and family behind, then realized living in CA wasn’t for her. She was great at her job so they let her move back. Perhaps suggest commuting to the west coast every other week for the first 6 months. And mention - with the beauty of products like Google hang outs, you can virtually be available to speak face to face at anytime. It’s what Google sells and is proud of - so they should enable employees to do the same.
Looking to get into Google, any tips other than applying?
then communicate that to HR?
Ask
What role did you get the offer for?
They did this to a colleague of mine, fortunately before she resigned. Her husband owns a company in Philly so they couldn’t just leave for a role in the Bay Area because Google was disorganized. The role was agreed to be 50% remote, 50% travel mainly to Europe. So she reneged. Left a really bad taste in her mouth - she said HR acted like they couldn’t imagine why this was a problem.
What is the role? I am interviewing now so tell me.
@Kpmg1 Not true
@google give some advice
Be careful, you need to speak with your new manager and make sure you can still be successful in NYC or if that would negatively impact you... I know it sucks but don't want to convince them to do something sub optimal and then be off on the wrong foot... sorry they did this though
