I graduated in 2011 as a U.S. LLM with no JD, and a LLB from an English speaking country. Extremely hard to find a job in the US at that time. I eventually got a job in biglaw in London in a practice area that was not great and which I ended up hating. I wanted to practice in biglaw in the US. I slowly made my way back to the US and now am a senior associate at a top firm doing something I really like. On track to make partner next year unless economy tanks (which I guess is likely). So I guess my tip is to be flexible with location and practice area. The job you get may not be where you want to be ultimately but having biglaw experience under your belt is usually more valuable than not having it.

I’m on a TN visa and yeah it’s scary but because I have my license in Canada, it’s not the worst. Worst case leverage the hell out of my US experience in Canada…

My family came here on the H1b visa in the 90s. They were in software when it wasn’t doing well. It’s thirty years later, but the anxiety and resulting trauma is embedded deep in my bones.

I have the contact info of a great recruiter that does both US and International. My experience with them is re: Europe. Happy to provide if interested, they just wrote to me to ask if I was part of layoffs (I wasn’t) because they have a bunch of open opportunities, some unposted. You could talk to them, both in terms of what is out there (to give you peace of mind that you can find something else in the US, if needed) and what options you could have in other markets.
Hi. Could you share the contact of your recruiter? I am interested.
