Yes. Tell them why you’re reaching out give your elevator pitch/something that makes you stand out. Say you’ve applied through all official channels but would they be open to connecting to discuss the role and what they are looking for in a candidate. I almost always get a response.
Yep, I always try to. It can't hurt and often times at least helps you get a look.
You can personalize, but probably best to keep it short.
"Hey [NAME], I just applied for [JOB] and wanted to connect with you personally. I'd love to learn more about the position and how I can help. Have some time to chat?"
When you post on LinkedIn you have the option to not feature the talent person, so I always assume they are open if they left that option on.
I kind of hate when people do this, tbh. My recruiter is already showing me resumes of who she thinks the strongest candidates are, based on my own criteria and considerations for the role. So when someone reaches out to me after applying, I am either a) going to interview them eventually and it just hasn’t been scheduled, or b) not going to interview them because they’re not one of the strongest applicants. In neither scenario am I going to schedule a separate call with them, outside the interview process (which I am already involved in!) to “tell them more about the role.”
By all means, if you have quick questions about the job you’d truly like the answers to before you apply, go ahead and message me. But please don’t think you are doing something smart by asking me to basically duplicate the recruiting and interviewing process that someone else is already doing for me.
Sorry about the confusion! Lol I thought recruiter and hiring manager were synonymous. I thought hiring manager was the manager overseeing hiring for the office 😂. Good to know and thanks both of you!
Yes, but not via linkedin, via email. Also the person who posts the job may just be a recruiting coordinator, the proper point of contact may be someone else.
