I took a 3 year LOA when my spouse took an international assignment (no work visas available for trailing spouses). I enjoyed the time off with my family and came back to work refreshed. I’m a few years behind my peers but the experience was worth it.
i thought LOA generally don’t exceed 6 months?
I think it’s very rare to have to leave the firm due to an independence issue. Were you fired bc you were careless or disregarded rules? Or was there an issue that was too hard to overcome/resolve so you have to resign?
Yeah, I hear you. Gosh, so unfortunate. And from your other responses, it doesn’t sound like they handled it very well. That also sucks.
I have a similar situation coming down the pipe (not imminently or anything). Independence group basically said when the time comes I’ll have to resign if we aren’t willing to move to compliant accounts. Kinda feels like a light at the end of the tunnel 😎
Luckily you have some time to plan or at least know in advance! But I agree, it definitely could be a light at the end of the tunnel situation. B4 is a constant love/hate relationship.
How did you “feel” about it? Are you trying to justify feeling bitter or something?
No bitterness, at least not towards the spouse - not their fault. Its just such a cut and dry issue with B4. I realize we are all disposable. But it feels particularly so when there's a life event that triggers an unexpected independence consequence and its basically like yeah "there's the door". There is little time to react and you have to abruptly figure out a new plan for yourself.
