15 YOE, recently started my first tech PR job at a large, stable company & have been asked to get ~20 SMEs in front of media. Subject matter is not sexy. I lead PR for all of U.S. & have no other PR colleagues. My agency’s budget is 100k/year & they’re spread too thin to hit their KPIs. Is it naive to hope that there could be a job out there that I actually LIKE doing as opposed to just forcing myself to do it for the paycheck? I work for a great company with (mostly) great people but still find myself wishing I could be doing anything else throughout the workday. After a number of different jobs in industry and consulting have left me feeling the same after a year or so, I'm starting to wonder if it'll always be this way and actually liking work is just out of reach.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
