Has anyone switched from CMBS/structured finance to real estate? Do you recommend it?

I’m in real estate. You should stay where you are for now. If you lateral they’re just going to make you do CMBS under the real estate group umbrella. There’s really not much deal flow outside of distressed loans and leasing

Why make that switch instead of the opposite?

Agree with A1, lateraling to a different firm may help. It also depends on the type of finance you practice. Some practice areas (RE Fund for example) could potentially have a better WLB than what you currently do.

I’d say stay put for a bit. Real estate still struggling across the board. Jobs would be hard to find.

This is one time selection and not reversible.

I need more detail about superannuation and is it beneficial or not?

Also is there any retirement age in IT field 🤔 (or in citi)?

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.
