Car seat all the way. Think that every time they put on the fasten seat belts sign, you’ll have to take your daughter out of the bassinet and hold her with you. It will be a true pain for both of you!
They will ask you to check in the car seat. It’s generally free and not counted as additional baggage if you are traveling with an infant. Go for bassinet. I’ve done that with a 1 yr old and it works great.
They may ask you but don’t feel obligated.
Fly a European carrier, they will treat you better with a young one than US carriers. Also, try and book window and aisle and hope no one sits in the middle. 😀
I flew to Europe over Christmas flight was 3/4 empty. More than likely you’ll have a free seat for the car seat. Check a few days in advance.
What McK said, it’s a pain when the seatbelt sign comes on
The sky bassinet is not always available and not that great for reasons McK 1 explained. Also, when the baby is in the bassinet they make use this cover like thing to secure the baby ( think turbulence accident prevention) at 1 year old I would say get them a seat and use a car seat.
I should add, good for you for traveling overseas with a young one. It can be scary/stressful during the planning stage but I found it to be extremely rewarding. We took our two month old to the UK for 10 days.
Done loads of times and always go for the bassinet. It’s not that often you have to hold them.
Does anyone have experience with fitting in a car seat? United seats are like 17in wide and most car seats are wider than that…
After all the great advice, planning on getting two seats (leave middle empty) bring a car seat, and also request a bassinet 😂
We travlled to India in 2018 with our 1 year old. Didn’t want to spend money on extra seat as she would always be in our lap anyway. Requested bassinet and first row seat for her sleep and it was great. But for the time she was awake, we were either apologizing to other passengers or preventing her from running on aisles. Good luck!
Thank you EY2! I was checking the seat map and looks like most front row seats were already filling up. Called United and they said they could request, but not reserve, a bassinet in advance and I’d have to just show up early to airport an hope for the best…
Car seat is great.
