Has anyone worked on a outsourced GC model. Where for a monthly payment you do effectively unlimited work for them? I hate billable hours and prefer fixed monthly retainers.

The obvious concern is workload but it can work with a lot of communication and management of expectations

You also have to have a firm line around what you do and do not handle, both as an issue of what you practice and as an issue of what falls in that flat fee.

I do this with a few clients. I position it as a subscription service. I don't advertise that I offer this arrangement publicly but offer it to clients once I get a sense of how we work together and how they will navigate and deal with professional boundaries. Generally, it has been a win-win arrangement for me and my participating clients but I could also see it quickly going south with the wrong client who thinks they have essentially hired a 40 hour/week in-house counsel.

Need some honest advice. I accepted an offer but haven’t signed the offer letter. I didn’t negotiate my salary because they offered me $2k more than my previous salary. I was super excited to get the offer because I’ve been out of work for 3 mons. I didn’t factor in inflation. Is it too late to negotiate now? What’s the etiquette? I have never in my life negotiated my salary bcuz it’s always higher than my last. Thanks in advance!

Our firm is establishing our target billable %'s at a small public accounting firm. Is there a website that gives target billable time % by staff level for the tax and accounting industry? Just started poking around the AICPA website, but would appreciate being able to save some time looking for it. I'm used to a lower % rate than what's being proposed (70% vs 85%) and don't want to cause undue pressure on staff, but do want to give a reasonable billable hours expectation going forward.

Hello all,

I'm a PA in the PNW working for a private group staffing ED's in several hospitals. Recently the group has asked the PA's to take on a couple new roles (triaging and rapid track from triage i.e. straightforward ESI 4, 5). With these changes the PA's are considering asking for increased pay in the form of an addition of a COLA (cost of living adjustment) to our normal salary. Was wondering if any other PA's in the ED have these in their contracts and at what rate.

-Thanks

At what point in the interview process should I ask their budget for the role? I’m on 3rd round interviews and I don’t want to do another until I know the salary range as I’m a successful and happy freelancer. Is it rude to ask the range before I get on with the ECD?

Atty as of July 2020. I planned to start a small firm with a fellow grad after school--then COVID happened. He continued forward with a solo crim def firm, and because I wanted to do business/startup law, I waited (again, COVID). I then got a job with the government (PSLF was appealing).

We gave this a lot of thought (incl. partnership agreement, business plan, etc.), and the itch is back.

Is it worth leaving the gov't and the PSLF gold handcuffs, or stay? Or should I wait for COVID to end?

I’m torn because the other firm is under the impression I’m coming in as a partner. But I can’t turn away from the significant offer I have from my current firm, where I enjoy working.
