Or last minute requests from leadership....
Accenture 1 - I agree but there are times when something last minute pops up. That is life.
Honestly even though I’m a consultant I hate seeing/hearing others typing furiously on their laptops near me on a plane/train. If you managed your work properly you can get it all done in the office or at home and use the travel time to just decompress. Road warriors ruin the peace for others. Back to my Clash of Clans 😁
Or it’s near go live and everyone is working closer to 80 hour weeks, in which I’d rather do work on the plane so I can potentially rest on my first Saturday at home in 2-3 weeks
What!! I always get work done on plane. Why wouldn’t you? So much better than going home and working. Last minute sure, I actually plan my time on flights to get focused work done. So productive
I do some work on the plane only once or twice a year max. Those random times have nothing to do with last minute urgent requests. It’s literally because I’m bored, have something I could work on offline, and have the physical space to stretch out and do it. Thus, the stars aligning for me for all of that is super rare.
Assuming all your flights are domestic, I’m sure no one is going to blow a vein if you deliver a response a couple hours late.. if you work 80 hours a week, then something is fundamentally wrong with the work allocation and planning in the first place. I’ve worked in many projects over the last 7 years and sure there are crunch times but nothing to lose your sanity over. Maybe I’m just type B personality but I still manage to deliver my work and attain a reasonable work/life balance
I’m super productive on planes, no distractions
Do the same shit all the time, but it’s not because something is urgent, it’s so I can disconnect once I get home. I find a reoccurring theme with consultants liking to find time to bitch about how busy we are, but waste so many moments we could be getting work done.
@A1 Why would I do work at home, when I could be on the clock during my commute? I would be travelling 15 hours round trip a week on my dime if I didn't have client work or practice development materials to finish on the plane rides. Equals out after eating 20+ hours a week.
Amen!!! I would have been more impressed if that was BOS- LAX flight and he continues to keyboard all the way to LA.
Associate2 - No distractions? You only have no distractions if you are in the aisle seat and passengers inside are too shy or reluctant to interrupt your work to get up for a bathroom break.
I swear next time I sit next to some road warrior blocking my access to the restroom I will tap his laptop every 20 minutes and smile and say “sorry buddy I got a weak bladder" 😜
@A1 somehow I think the question you should be asking first is what firm, not are they a bad time manager .... not all of us work 9 to 6 pm 😂
