Deferrals are rare. But you can always reject an offer, explain, and reapply
Coach
If you have an offer within the next month it would be disingenuous to submit applications in R2 knowing that you are taking a role that you would not leave next summer to go to business school.
But...if you don't have the offer in hand you should go ahead and apply.
Something similar happened to one of my clients. They applied to W in R2 and right before getting an interview invite lost their job. Before they were accepted they had landed another job (basically what they were shooting for post-MBA). They were able to defer for a year and argued that the experience they would get in the new role would allow them to add more value in the classroom and outside activities.

I totally understand wanting to get started with creating your strategy and beginning to craft essays as you are waiting for an official offer. It would stink for you to expect it to come through then find out in mid-November that you didn't get the role and have to scramble to put together applications.
So for now, parallel path on the applications and continuing to pursue the VC role.
Best!
