Don’t some companies of accelerated RSU vest? I got laid off from a tech company and got 3 months severance and 3 months of accelerated RSU vest, which ended up being 25% of my new hire RSUs, totaling to 65k.
You should speak to a lawyer about that. There must be some case law on that, it seems like something that would have been litigated over the years. My instinct is that if companies are doing it, they must feel like they're on solid legal ground, but that's not always the case. Sometimes they just see what they can get away with.

No... You get the RSUs because you are there not because you did a great job. They vest when you are still there + doing a great job (otherwise you wouldn't be there). It's not wrong. You seem to misunderstand the point of RSUs. They are to incentivize you to stay and perform well in the future. They are not compensation for what you have already done. At least not unless you are C-Suite at a publicly company with deferred compensation.

RSUs aren't yours until they vest. If they vested, they can't be taken away. If they didn't vest, you have no legal right to them. Some companies offer accelerated vesting but that's a courtesy.
I haven't ever heard of someone actually taking their company to court, but I think you absolutely should talk to a lawyer and see if you have a good case. The tech world should be held more accountable in my honest opinion

Accountable for what? Not giving you something you don't own?

I'm sorry you were impacted by a RIF. The lessoned learned here is to never expect or count on an RSU or bonus.

There's a reason why the turnaround at Amazon is 2.8 years. The earliest they would pay is 3 years, which means they pip and fire people before they have to pay out RSUs.
Never stay somewhere based on RSUs unless you're almost positive you'll reach payout. Companies can and will let you go at any time.
Same happened to me. Amzn gave me a promotion, a ton more RSU and then 3 months later laid me off after 7.5 years. Now a year later I’m making way less and hanging out in the minor leagues. However I work at home and if I ignore a deadline who cares!!!!!! Good luck
I worked at Amazon Ops-Tech IT for a couple of years. Our Engineer on site saw the writing on the wall and cashed in on all the stock he was "vested" in, and declined any further stock offerings as an incentive. Rather he negotiated pay. Worked out well for his severance pay when his role, and many others were wiped out, sorry eliminated. You do not own that incentive stock until vestment time, which if I recall was 2 years. Depending on the amount of time you have at Amazon, and the grade you are at (L4 or higher when I was there), you can (I guess) somewhat negotiate severance. Be glad you are out of that toxic environment though.
