Ask based on your current offer in hand. I mean - ask more than that. If it's like 20L then ask 22 or 23 and don't let them brainwash.
Add points like "if i join now anyway I won't be suitable for hike cycle, so consider that and things like that".
Ask them to consider the market situation and say like "don't go by my current salary or offer in hand, I've 17 yoe and that must be considered. I hope that being a HR in a company which is around 150 years you should be able to consider this point.
Obviously the market compensation is a must for an individual to consider. Even though Societe generale is a well established company, I don't want myself to think twice or change my plan just because of the compensation.
