It was discouraging but did not affect my work. I always give my all, to a fault, in my opinion.

Thank you for the input!
I was incredibly angry, especially with how it was handled. Nothing was mentioned about me being passed over, but then I got an email saying I needed to interview their top candidate (this person would be my boss). After reading his resume and interviewing him, I understood why I wasn't chosen, and was actually excited to work for him. But I was still furious about no one talking to me about it.
To make it worse, the top candidate was hired, I have had to train him, and he is a complete dud. I am still doing 90% of the work for the job.
Given everything, I am now looking for a new job.

Wow, that would be the worst to train the top candidate after all of that. I’m sorry to hear that.
It happened to me, but it was one of the best things that happened to me. I received honest and transparent feedback and I work harder to improve in some areas I had to. In the end I achieved another promotion 8 months later. Receive that NO allowed me to push me to be a better professional and person. Keep it going, ask for feedback and work harder

I guess receiving that No did more help than harm in this situation. Good for you!
