When I found out I was pregnant with my son, 20 years ago, I went into the employee restroom to take a pregnancy test on my lunch break and went in there with another woman that I worked with. I screamed out over the stall that I was pregnant but when I came out, she was already gone. I was in La La Land trying to absorb the fact that I was holding a positive pregnancy test in my hand. I walked back very happy to my office. I open the door and my boss asked to see me immediately , he fired me on the spotļæ¼. As ridiculous as it seems I was still holding the pregnancy test in my hand when he fired me. I called my husband from the office and told him I had been fired and the only thing that he told me was, donāt let that MF see you cry. I waited until I was in the car to cry. He really ruined the exciting moment of finding out I was pregnant with my first and only child , but I am now a PPMD at Deloitte and I look back on that experience as a way to help other women grow and be nurtured. A lot has changed in 20 years and Iām grateful for thatļæ¼

Different times 20 years ago, I am sure it was technically illegal but woman didnāt have much say when I was young At least no one listened. And I was more nervous about being pregnant and trying to find a new job than I was about thinking of suing them. I did hear years later he was sued by a class action law suit

Was fired because of performance and interpersonal issues. Twice. Not doing too bad at a big 4 now.

The performance issues emanated from me not giving 100% to my job. So made some behavioral adjustments including avoiding procrastination. Miss old golden days when deadlines meant very little to yours truly.
I got fired from S& for calling my managers idiots
I now made 2x what I did at S&
Actually calling them idiots. The quote was āHow did you make manager and not know this? Freshman at Wharton are expected to know this, you idiot!ā
Got fired from McDonalds at 15. Gave away to much free food to offset service failures.
I currently work for a publicly traded Fortune 500. Constantly question yourself and your actions. Donāt be afraid to challenge yourself and others

Yes from my toxic first job. Simply because I asked to rotate teams. Now in consulting and a much better place.
My very first job out of college I found a security hole and pointed it out. They said I violated their policy. Iām an architect today making sure companies donāt have these very same security holes on our platform
Yeah, some industries are so stuck in their old ways and want servants not individuals. I remember in the meeting I said I was happy to help find and discuss approaches to closing other security holes. They said that I didnāt understand that I was wrong to do what I did. A lot of politics come into play when people try to protect their jobs. All good, never compromise creativity and desire for progress.

First job out of the military. Got sick and took a day off during a 30 day probationary period. I didnāt have a doctorās excuse so I was let go.
Was fired from Kmart as a cashier. I made cash counting errors twice; maybe worth $20. Anyway, couple years back I saw my Kmart boss at the client working in the mail room
Yep, complained about my abusive manager to the owner of the company (it was a small firm). Went on vacation and when I came back got fired on the same day. No regrets though! Landed at Deloitte! Sometimes itās ok to get fired from a toxic job.
Laid of during 2008 crisis, today in pipeline to make MD in under 9 years, started as a staff
Was fired from an internship because I needed to take the afternoon off for a family emergency. My communication about it sucked. Hasnāt affected me at all though and I entered consulting out of grad

Got transitioned out of an MBB. A while later ended up getting offers of the other 2 MBBs (and joined one of them). The old one was in an office with an incredibly toxic and non-diverse culture (not referring to ethnicity). Getting transitioned was one of the best things that ever happened to me.
Told my story in FB a while ago
