What jobs are currently paying 85k?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

For me, it's all about the base salary. Stock options don't really mean much anymore. I've been burned too many times by the promise of money versus the reality of cold, hard cash.
Same here. I like the predictability

Here the question you have to ask yourself first, does this company have the potential to actually blow up/IPO or does it have the ability to be enough of an industry disruption that a larger company may buy it up either for profit off its IP/shelving its IP. If the answer is yes than there's your answer on stock options/equity. If the answer is no than focus on the cash compensation.
I would never give up a higher base for stock options from the very jump. I do get why you might do it in this situation, however, a higher base is better. I would ask for a higher base first and then go for stock options if they say no.
