I used all of my points on this, the credit is just applied to the card.
Normally if you take your points as cash back, you’d get 1 cent per point. With “pay yourself back” you get 1.5 cents per point with the CSR. It’s the same as if you booked through the travel portal.
It isn’t a bad value but it’s worse value than using it to book high end hotels and flights. The Points Guy values Chase points at 2 cents per point and I’ve been able to get way higher. I’d personally save the points until travel picks up again.
Also, keep in mind — the redemption “value” against something you wouldn’t otherwise buy is different from the “value” you get against money you’ve spent already. 1.5 cpp on groceries might be a better deal than 2.5 cpp on a flight you wouldn’t otherwise take.
It just 1.5cpp cash back (with some date and category limits) which equates to 1.5-4.5% (depending whether earning was on regular categories or bonus). For comparison, direct travel booking is 1.5cpp but point transfer redemptions to travel partners could range from 1.6cpp (for domestic air travel) up to 10cpp for international biz flights.
Personally, I don’t see any/many international trips in my near future so maxed out the PYB offer (250k points, $3700). Cash now > points use later. And I still have 400k points.
And is now disallowed for all expenses
Thanks everyone, very helpful.

I used all 60k points on those. Helped pay for all the shiz I bought at Home Depot for new house
I’ve used about 1500 worth of points for it. It’s the best deal for redemption. I wish I could use all my points on it, bc it’s mean I could feel comfy cancelling my card when it’s not valuable anymore.
If you don't want to use the points now and you want to avoid the annual fee, downgrade to one of the Freedom cards. Allows you to keep the points and upgrade later.
i used mine when they had that deal with apple earlier this summer and just used my remainder to lessen the blow of my overspending the last few weeks 🙃
