Hello all! Transitioning teacher here looking to get into project management roles. For those already in the field, what are your experiences? Any advice for someone looking to break into the role? I’m working on the Coursera PM course and will apply to take the PMP certification through the PMI. Thanks everyone!

Hey Sara!

I’ve currently be working as a project assistant for about 2 years & 6 months. I love it. No day is the same & I love the challenge of taking on new projects & working collaboratively as a team. I’m looking to get PMP certified myself (I won’t be eligible to apply until September 2022).

I currently have PMBOK 7th addition & LinkedIn Learning (free access with library card). I eventually need to take the 35+ classroom hours. I’d love to be in a classroom setting.

Wishing you nothing but success!

Thanks Tara! Wishing you well on your journey! Hoping we will both easily get our PMP! 😊

How do I avoid giving up my desired salary first? Tired of recruiters asking me what my salary expectations are without offering the salary range for the position first. My salary expectations are based on a multiple factors. In some instances I am willing to take a lower salary, but I don’t want them to know that. What can I say to get them to give me the range first and then I can state if that works for me or not?

I’ve seen the same job description from three different small business firms (exact same job description language). I was reading a blurb from Lookzy which said that Wachtell, Milbank, Weil, Covington, Skadden and Freshfields are all involved in a recent M&A deal. As a new litigator, how common is it for this many law firms to be involved in a deal like this (recognizing that it’s a big deal)? Are all of these law firms involved with the negotiation of the deal/agreements? Sounds like a logistical nightmare and extremely expensive for clients. Is this deal an outlier?

I’ve been in strategy (social and Comms) for 8 years — with each move up, I feel myself getting farther and farther away from the creative process, which is my favorite part of my job.

What roles are there that straddle strategy/creative? Is there a way to transition to a creative position — and what does that look like? From everything I’ve seen, it seems like I would have to start over at entry level Copywriter and a lateral move to a comparable Creative position is non-existent?

Is it common to have to follow-up with a recruiter consistently in order to move to the next steps in an interview process? I'm interviewing with a company for a remote customer success position, and it's a 4-interview process. I have 1 final panel interview. The people I've been interviewing with have been great, and the recruiter is very positive, however it feels like things are dragging out here towards the end, and I've been following up/prompting for next steps. Is this a red flag?
