Unfortunately, it will be extremely difficult since you do not have experience, and it can be difficult to teach everything via Zoom. I've been a paralegal for 22 years, and I've been looking for a new remote opportunity for over a year. They are somewhat rare and very competitive.
I don't always say this, but you might want a recruiter to help. And your law school careers office.
Big law firms (think billboards all over the city big) are usually the ones that have WFH positions. Although if I'm being honest you might have a hard time finding a WFH position because of your lack of experience. It doesn't hurt to look though. Depending on the size of the firm some big firms have a "careers" option directly on their site. So maybe start there?
First of all, congratulations on all that you have accomplished thus far!
As far as looking for a 100% remote position, definitely go through a recruiter. Many of those companies, including my own, which I will not disclose, or bringing us back in person full-time 100%. Remote work will become a unicorn.
Get on LinkedIn, and apply to every single remote position you see, but also engage your recruiter. You’re gonna need to cast a wide net. Good luck to you!
Hi. First. Congratulations! You’ve accomplished so much. Remote positions are NOT easy to come by. Even in NY with my many years of experience, the offers are far and few between because most firms will only allow remote to their current employees who have already proven themselves to be strong members of their team. Having little or no real life “in person” experience will hinder someone from hiring you. In a remote position, you will be expected to have the ability to “fly on your own” or manage cases just as an attorney does (in litigation). If you find an attorney who still likes to dictate all his work and have a paralegal or legal secretary transcribe the dictation, you may have a shot. Try and look at legal transcribing positions. It may be easier to get your foot in the door and teach you as you transcribe. Every area in law is its own beast one must learn (inside and out) to become efficient and make it worth it for the boss to allow you to work from home. I’m sorry for the bad news but I don’t want to waste your time when you may be able to be out at a job (even for just a year) to get some real litigation experience, or Estate Planning, or something you like, under your belt. I have experience in everything from Matrimonial, PI, Business, Estate Planning, Med Mal, etc and still, the remote positions in New York (of all places) is hard to come by. You may want to try “Virtual Vocations”. It’s an app that posts all remote work. Good luck. You will find something. Maybe even offer to take the job on a trial basis as a subcontractor (1099) to see if you and the firm or attorney click. This way, if it doesn’t work out, you can both separate and move on. You will, however, have gotten some experience under your belt with which you may speak of and post on your resume. I wish you all the best!! Happy New Year!!
