HELP! As an agency attorney advisor, can I represent a family member (pro bono) in a divorce case? Do attorney or government ethics prohibit this? Where would I look to find the answer? I want to know the law before I discuss this with my supervisor. Any guidance would be really appreciated.

Your agency may have an ethics advisor. Check.

Yes, it’s my supervisor. He will say no without looking at the law so I wanted to know where I stood legally before approaching him.

Not my area, so I defer to others, but I believe there are some restrictions on the outside practice of law, so it’s a good question to ask. Also, the degree of family member may matter if, for example, there are exceptions from outside employment requirements, which may require your supervisor’s or other approval.

My agency carte blanche restricts any practice outside my work, even in unrelated areas of the law. It was in all of my on-boarding paperwork, in our initial trainings, and in our annual ethics review. I'd be really surprised if you're allowed to do this.

My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. But then, I learned that those same coworkers had been put back to 5 days because they were deemed “essential“. I felt foolish and decided to stop working on fridays. One EVP (not the GC) in particular has been aggressively texting/calling me on fridays. How Do I tactfully respond? My out-of-office email is not enough of a hint...

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. On the weekends, same responsibilities but 7a-7p. We don't get any additional pay for being in charge and I'm sick of the added responsibility and stress of it.

I am currently negotiating a compensation package and part of it includes stock options. What other information do I need to evaluate if the equity component is a good offer ? It’s a ~40 person company and I’ve received the the number of options, most recent valuation, and current strike price. I was also given a dollar range that I can “imagine” the share price would be (I think they were trying to help me do the math without it giving away too much)?
