Read that McK is paying 2K higher than BCG this year which means BCG will probably raise again next year to at least match. However, they can’t just copy McK with 2K to match because that would look bad so they’ll have to beat it again. Then McK and Bain will follow. Barring a devastating recession, I’m guessing this means MBB is all getting raises again next year?

Networking: I’m trying to build a network with MBB employees but I’m searching for roles in another country where I’ve got minimal school connections. Should I start by building a network in my home country and ask them if they can put me in touch with someone in my target location? Or just go straight to people in my intended location with cold requests/emails? Thoughts and views welcome!

My supervisor gave me 8hours of AWOL because I couldn't show up one day because I was under anxiety. I have gave him letters from psychiatrist,psychologist that I'm passing through this. I live in NYC and recently started interviewing for positions in VA. On average, the offers are higher than the ones I’ve received in NY. I have 11 years of experience, worked for Google, AOL and a VC firm. Does tech companies in Northern VA provide higher comps on average vs NYC?

Is it misleading to just look at Total Compensation from a $ dollar value/ Total Compensation seems to be much more subjective than base salary in terms of its value. Some factors might be:

RSUs granted on dollar value or by # of shares & stock price trends
Vesting schedule
strike price on ISOs & delta between strike price and real market value

For instance, most of value in Amazon's comp seems to be granted in years 3 & 4, but it's well known that most people last only 2 years max there.
