Thts their headache. You stick to your points and say you are leaving . IT is not for emotional things. And dont think too much on these discussions. They will waste sometime as a formality to retain.
I totally understand but I am new to all this. This is my first time resigning from a company. People usually leave because of bad bosses but here I am, running away from the work because I am not able to do it. I have genuine reasons though. I am not a BE dev. I am a data engineer. I got transferred internally from one department to another and they gave me a good salary hike. Now, I am not sure if it will leave a bad impression that “We gave him a good hike and now he is leaving. Let’s put him in no-rehire list”.
Why lie about anything?
Tell them how you feel and the reason you started working on interviews. Let them know their mistake in staffing you in a project unlike your actual stack and that caused you to be demotivated. You want to get back to your stack and grow there.
It's perfectly fine to be honest.
Them giving you a good hike is perfectly OK my friend. Don't ever ever let that make you feel guilty about leaving.
I am pretty much in the same situation. Everyday I am scared to even join the call because I don’t have any significant update. My teammates on the other hand go on and on. Due to all if this, they ask for my updates after everyone is done. Like 10-12 people give their updates before I do. ☹️
The replies on this post are the reason why Fishbowl community is the best. I think this was the kind of guidance I was looking for. Thanks a lot, UST. 🙂
Should have had a 1v1 chat with the manager first.
The thing is, if I waited for a 1v1 with my manager then they would’ve wasted time in discussions and probably would’ve said that “Don’t put down your papers now. Let me talk to my up-line manager” and stuff. Although, I sent a message to him on Slack right after resigning.
What is your tech stack, may be you can find your replacement here?
I have put down my papers and I will tell them that I will try finding my replacement. I am a data engineer stuck in BE development since the last 4-5 months.
Just say you have some family / personal/ health issues , which you want to focus on right now . That's why you want take a break from work and resolve the issues First . Nothing is more important than personal well being
I can’t really say that. I have already told him last month in a 1:1 that I am not able to work properly and I feel like I am the dumbest guy in the team. I also told him the that I am not exactly contributing anything significant. Also, every day in the morning stand-up call, I don’t have any update because at times the task assigned to me is too small or it’s just testing a few things. My team lead also thinks that I am dumb. He thinks that I take help from my teammates in order to complete my tasks. I am a data engineer and just started with Backend dev. Whereas everyone in my team has at least 4 YOE in BE development. This is taking a toll on my mental well being also.
There is no use of this discussion or discussion with your manager. Do you expect anything can be done to retain you and do they agree for that. If they agree, do you believe it. Otherwise it will be just time pass. You can use the same time to prepare more instead of Overthinkinng and cribbing. Do you have control on what your team thinks about you? Can you change it or manager can change it? Will you stay if they solve all your issues or give you project matching your skill? You are just searching for exuses.
Ma’am / Sir, As stated in the comments above. I am not looking out for a retention. I want to leave and work on my tech. stack only. I know that I will be able to pipeline more offers and get a significant hike. The thing is, I am running away from the things because I am not able to perform at all.
