Hard is relative. I can say as a general AA I focused on travel, expenses, and scheduling. As an EA, I do all that, but also do things like reporting, gathering and interpreting data (often creating PP decks), more event planning and marketing, and so much more. There's a lot more critical thinking and being proactive. If it's someone who wants you in the emails there can be responding on their behalf, or talking care of requests if you can. Sometimes they don't provide any training and expect that you'll be able to just jump in and hit the ground running.
Also to add that pay can vary. I left my last EA job that only paid 55k for a senior AA job that pays 100k. I miss the EA work, but the less stress for higher pay wins out.
I think the term executive is used very widespread and doesn't mean the same in each company so it is hard to judge if one position is harder than the other because they could be essentially the same position just different titles and the same could go for being easier or harder.
Wow! Where do u work as a senior AA? I worked in education as a senior AA/business manager and didnt make close to that
