Hey! Got offers from Mck Research ("Capabilities & Insights Analyst") and an internal consultant role at a retailer with title of "Manager"(I guess its comparable to Associate role) looking at store optimization and growth? Mck pays ~15% more but I heard that the role is highly about research support, creating Mck "proprietary assets" and is well perceived as Tier 2 within the firm. Added bonus of the retailer is they actively hire Mck and BCG for consulting. Which firm would you guys choose?

Can't really judge 100% as it will largely depend on your seniority and what you're trying to optimize for.

My 2 cents are: Research team really is perceived as tier 2 within the Firm, most likely you won't be working directly with clients. Transition to an integrative/consulting path may take a while...

Given that you're so early in your career and probably don't have other strong brand names in your CV, the McK name will most likely help you further along.

Just don't come thinking it's easy to switch to the consulting path because it's not, my previous roommate was on the research team and it took him 1.5-2.0 years to switch.

I'm not really familiar with exit opportunities for the research team to be honest, but given that you will most likely be focused on one specific industry, I'd guess a large variety of roles within that industry. Another exit would be just a switch to the "normal consultant" path if that's what you want - that's quite common, it just takes some time

hello! I’m looking to get some insight to see if I’m being paid fairly for where I’m at in my career. I’ve worked at the same company for 2.5 years. This is my first job out of college. Started as an HR Admin, basically in a call center for all HR related inquiries and now am a Sr Admin assisting with escalations, interviewing, training new hires, supporting my team, scheduling, keeping track of stats- phone calls, tickets resolved, etc. I’m making $52k per year and work remote out of MA.

Intl Tax folks, how long did it take before you were confident in your role? I've worked for the past 3 years in a practice that is heavily consulting based (inbound and outbound structuring) and I feel like I'm only just starting to understand the foundational concepts (where I can explain them clearly to clients) and offering a shred of value. Then I'll have calls where partners discuss complex tax, legal, treasury and other related concepts that all go over my head.. it becomes overwhelming

However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that.
