A little more than a senior associate but probably not much more. This can really vary firm to firm though.

350-550 depending on firm

Internally promoted counsel at my am law 100 firm start at around senior associate pay ($420-$435), plus sometimes a small bump. Lateral counsel will depend on what they negotiate for, I think.
It will vary wildly by firm and may depend on whether they’re a single or dual tier partnership. I had similar thoughts/some discussions last year. At some firms you’ll get basically only the top of the associate scale. At others, you might get 600-700 base. If it’s a single tier firm and you’re basically operating as an income partner would elsewhere it could be even higher. That’s what I’ve heard, at least.
Thanks! I think I'm being viewed as a "lateral" counsel. Since I'm anonymous, I probably should just name the firm. The place I'm looking at is Troutman Pepper Locke. Any guesses as to comp range there are greatly appreciated.
