Can you describe what you do on a day to day? Is it more IT audit (aka screenshots) or is it operational audits? After a year in PA audit and some soulsearching, Ive realized I might not care about "prestige" or doing exciting work. What I want is easy work, great WLB and high pay.
Day to day is reviewing policies and procedures developing approach to audit leveraging past work and current information, meeting with business unit heads to understand what they do. You need to identify the risks to the business and then the controls that mitigate them. Then you test the controls which is more boring. You request all evidence that the control works and then check off the list of attributes.
Any issues you find then you basically debate with the business unit on whether you think they present a risk and the controls don’t work or that they do work.
Depending on your level and experience you do more of the thinking, reviewing of work, managing of peoples day to day or weekly activities, and presenting than you do the hands on work (aka screenshots or reviewing operational documentation like loan agreements etc).
In 1 year you can make 120k in MCOL in fund accounting.
Got an offer for 85k base plus overtime pay ( 5-7 hours a week of overtime) which is minimum 100k, plus a bonus plus relocation but I declined the offer.

You can’t pay me enough to do internal audit
Yeah it’s not for everyone. I can put on Netflix for half the day, do 4 hours work, and come out as a high performer while living my life the second the clock hits 5-5:30 pm.
It is funny to think about that... after 2 YOE your value is $120k and after 5 YOE its just worth $30k more at $150k.
Not commenting on IA specifically, just the industry as a whole.
Yeah doesn’t make sense 😂 but to be fair with 6 YOE I’m getting offers for closer to 180-200k. I’m just comfortable where I am rn and 160k is more than I ever thought I’d make.

Can you work fully remote?
It’s hybrid technically. But I’m a high performer and you better believe I’m never going in. If they fire me I’ll apply to another bank and increase my salary from 150-160k to 185k+. There are so many open jobs for internal audit.
I know you're there, 40hr week $100k+ WFH internal audit job, and I will find you.
145k base 163k total comp wfh full time never leaving either either lol
I’m making 134k in public with 3 years experience, plus I don’t have to audit.
Nice! This was geared to public accounting audit b4 people who get taken advantage usually because it’s their first job out of college.

DM me for EY referral
Why would I go back to b4 and make pennies for 80 hour weeks lol no thank you

Would it be better to just get promoted to manager in big 4 and then switch to internal audit at a manager level?
I mean you can do the math but seniors in IA industry are pulling $120k with 2 YOE. In Public you’d be making less up until 5 years when you transfer.
Having done public private and government, I’d do 1-2 years public to build your work ethic and transfer to IA after that and then stay as senior 1-2 years before transferring to another bank as manager and make over $150k.
Hiring?
How did you get into advisory?
can apply to industry controlleresq positions for 180k with 5yoe in hcol what? why ia?
That sounds great! People should go for that! The pay isn’t too far from IA. I’d only say IA jobs are stable and plentiful.
Just trying to show b4 people there are options outside of b4 that pay well. They are being undervalued in b4 plain and simple.
What company is this? In a remote IA role but moving to a HCOL area so not sure my current salary will cut it
Big Bank (citi, jp, Morgan Stanley, BoA). It’s a hybrid role, just people aren’t going in. I wouldn’t look at it as a fully remote job but one where people are starting to care less having tasted what wfh is like.
