I had a question about Canadian salaries , is 230k CAD base a good number to be paid for someone with my experience, or it should be higher - the role is that of a director at an analytics startup, I’ve realized Retailers pay a whole lot less in general and definitely super low in Canada , any thoughts or advice?. much appreciated.

My joining date is coming closer, however education background checks are still processing ( international degrees) . My onboarding coordinator told me that I can still join even if education check is still in progress, provided there wont be any flags. I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

Coming to the realization that consulting is not for me (tech person) feeling angry that salaries at D will never be on pair with FANG and that leadership is not tech focused. For example you could be a soul contributor at fang making 240k and people at Deloitte wait 10+ years to earn that as Senior Managers because they need to climb the corporate ladder. It seems super clear cut to me now, if you want to make money in tech don’t join consulting firms. Am I wrong?

Is it worth it to do a PhD in Statistics or Epidemiology or Health Informatics if I am interested in being a data science director in Pharma or a Health system? I am working remotely a a data scientist right now. I am plan on learning more ML models for now. However, is there a certain point where it makes sense to get a PhD? I want to stay in the healthcare space but not sure what I should do next besides taking coursera classes.
