Hi bowlers! I’ve recently found myself in the opportunity to mentor/lead an incoming intern. The intern will report to my boss, but I will be on the interview panel and the go to during the intern stint. I really want to do a great job in this leadership role to show I can lead a team in the future. I understand leadership and management are different, but I have set career growth goals to move up the “ladder” and want to make an impact. Maybe this can help get my foot in the door? Any advice?

ABSOLUTELY do it!

Management is task-focused, Leadership is influence and vision-focused.
In my experience, leadership starts with management even though they ARE different. They also work together best when intermingled.

Regardless.... my advice is ALWAYS look at every opportunity as something you can put on your resume and if you put in your all and excel, even the better.

The workforce these days is super entitled and lack-luster, so def leverage anything and everything you can to have on your resume to highlight you as a high-performer!

I’ve been bouncing between floating on cloud 9 and imposter syndrome. I was the one who requested an intern and wrote a business use case and job description. My boss approved it this week and it’s been posted. So I feel like I’m in that leadership role already. But don’t want it to go to my head.

I didn’t think of this as a resume builder. That’s a good point!

Any advice on how I can make the most out of this opportunity once someone is hired? Or even in preparation to have someone hired?

I started my career at Hallmark as part of their intern program which is quite excellent. I got hired after the internship and had a new supervisor but to this day, I consider my boss the supervisor and mentor I had during the internship. He really set the tone for my career, encouraged me and even gave ME leadership opportunities during those three months. I built so much confidence during that time. Besides moving up on the ladder think of the long term impact you can have in the career of this individual and that will automatically make you a great leader. Be a servant. That’s the best advice I can give you.

I'm at an early stage tech start up and gaining experience in an industry that I like. However, I am getting no formal training or sales coaching. Everything I've done so far (Inc. Got braids. You'd think I literally got a face transplant from how shook my coworkers are. I would say over 10 people have stopped me to ask about them or comment on them and I've been at work for maybe 2 1/2 hours. It's all been positive, but am I wrong for still finding it annoying? They don't lose their minds when Sarah gets bangs or whatever so I wish they could keep that same energy.

New Jersey partnership question.

Partnerships need to use market sourcing for purposes of calculating NR withholding tax (though NJ doesn't even call this withholding anymore).

However, for purposes of calculating the NJ distributive share of income, you apply Gross Income Tax (personal income tax) rules, which is 3 factor and includes COP.

If I end up with 0% apportionment under GIT and 10% apportionment under CBT (withholding tax), the partnership pays tax upfront but NRs get 100% refund?
