Hi everyone! I have been doing more ratings on Vivino as of late. If you use the app please feel free to follow my ratings, and I will do the same! I like to find more niche $20-60 wines from smaller wineries, as opposed to just going for the the Caymus/ opus of the world. If that’s you too I’d be happy to connect and share recommendations.

Also recommend cellar pass, a little less mainstream than Vivino, but good place to look up wines and track your cellar.

Nice! I'll look you up and add you.

Wine-searcher is amazing

I would highly recommend using Delectable instead. Delectable is the app for wine professionals or more serious wine enthusiasts.

I'm entertaining guests and picked up a black summer truffle on a whim, trying to decide what to do with it. I've got some rib eyes and will be making mashed potato as well (among other things).

After sous vide and searing the steaks I was going to cook fresh rosemary and thyme in some butter before spooning them over the steaks while resting to heat them up a bit immediately before serving.

I think I've got my truffle 101 now so sounds like (cont)

I keep getting sour wines. I’ve never had this issue before but the last few bottles I got (store shelf, nothing too fancy) tasted like they were opened and left out. That gross stale sort of sour taste… but the cork was in tight and sealed. 🧐

I am looking for wine decanter tags that are writable. I’d like to find a vintage looking silver option, but they all require engraving. I’m looking for something writable that I can change the label on when I host wine parties and I have a couple decanters on the table. Anyone have something similar and can share a link with me? I’m struggling to find anything that will work, other than writing on clear tape with a sharpie marker 😐

Dry. Acidic nose. But for $10 this wine is amazing. Where else can you find a ‘14 vintage for that cost. I Get nectarine hints maybe plum. Very little body. Mild tannin; I wouldn’t mind putting out for guests. If you’re going for something dry, acidic, in the red department, can’t complain. I picked this one up from Trader Joe’s. Hope you find this helpful!

Any recommendations on getting into wine? I love other specialty beverages (3rd wave coffee, craft beer), but struggle to “figure out” wine.

The ability to get involved with local beer and coffee producers has been a huge factor for me, so I’m guessing the comparative lack of local wine producers has contributed to me struggling to understand more of the process, culture, tasting notes, etc.

Big fan of this one. Not super bold. More velvety. Subtle leathery taste, hints of vanilla! I picked up a half case for 120, or $20 a bottle! I may actually buy more. 8/10 for price and taste. Very elegant.
