Hi Fishes, i am an MBA who joined IBM and became a data scientist. I don't want to pursue my whole career in tech related things or coding( which is what i do moat of the time now). Being an MBA i want to more of functional role of lead or head. Don't know how to make that transition and if it will be good looking at the current swing towards tech related roles. Really confused... Any suggestions will be welcome!

As an SM making $185k, what should I aim for as an exit? I got a $200k offer with better wlb and no travel but also no stock and low 401k. wondering if I I should set my sights higher.

Trying to decide between two portfolio ops roles, both in the Bay Area: Small-ish VC firm, ~135k base + 35k bonus Medium PE firm, ~115k base + 115k bonus Which would you choose? I’m leaning towards the PE firm bc it’s more hands-on, faster learning curve, and higher TC, but the VC role seems to have a better WLB and generally sounds cooler (getting exposed to VC vs continuing in the corporate world). What do you think?

Interviewing for a role at BP, what are they like as a firm to work at? It’d be the commercial/strategy side of the business rather than production. I understand they went thru a major re-org to be relevant for the future energy industry. How’s that going?

What are the most lucrative exit opps for a generalist/strategy consultant at big 4 public sector consulting with security clearance? I’ve heard positive things about Google and Amazon/AWS and about some of the big defense firms (Lockheed). Is it actually possible to boost comp by 50% or so on exit from big 4 in this space?

Is there a difference between a normal tax professional vs a tax consultant that works for the big 4? Are they essentially the same position and get paid the same as well?

Here is my idea for a startup! I collect all the data from career transitions and use Data Analytics to predict the most likely career transitions. I could start with consulting. What do you guys think about this? I would be able to predict based on your firm(mbb, big4), your experience, which role you are likely to move (Faang pm, strategy manager, move to mbb). I have all the data to do this, but wanted your thoughts. Would the output of this be relevant to you?

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. It ran smoothly, I got praise from the partner, and the partner said that they trust me to do most stuff without their sign off (so no need to check with them in future unless I’m really unsure). Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me. They like to keep me on the bench, get me to do minor tasks and don’t let me take responsibility and ownership.

Had a final round interview with B4 consulting on Monday and spoke with a partner for 10 min. When is it okay to follow up with them about a final decision? Currently staffed and they wanted me to start in March. So wanted to give my team maximum time to backfill my position.

I made limited EQ partner in 2019 . This week I was told I’m getting moved to counsel effective Jan 1. My hours were negatively impacted in 2019 by an ill parent (only child) and in 2020 multiple clients said pencils down for half the year (& additional family illness & a death), + kids. Hi all, would love to get your opinion on an estimated market rate for a employee like me, as I’m thinking about asking for a raise in January but haven’t done this before. 1 YOE TS/SCI Full-Scope Clearance 1/2 thru Masters program (Analytics Georgia Tech) Been lead data scientist on team for 5+ months 2 AWS and Tableau cert (sorry had to throw that in there lol) I know this is a tough task without all the context but I’m currently making $95k and that seems to be the lowest on my team.
