Hi folks. I’m a data scientist at a T2/B4 firm that does fairly technical work. I am prepping for interviews to transition to SWE-data at a big tech company and currently have a little over 1 yoe.

Since prep usually takes a while for swe, I have not started seriously applying. However, I am likely to receive an offer for 110-120k at another consulting firm. I was hoping to get some thoughts from other technical folks that made the transition. More in comments

FL peoples: I signed a lease for a new place to start May 1 as my current landlord sold the unit I'm in. Turns out, the buyer wants to keep renting the unit and asked if I want to stay. Of course I want to stay. My new lease hasn't started so I'm pretty sure I can easily back out. Currently a big 4 consultant and got an offer from FAANG for a strategy and ops role that would bring my total comp up 60%. I’m really grateful for the offer and really excited, however, I am also interviewing with MBB. It has always been a goal of mine to work for tier 1 strategy firm as I’ve always felt on the outside looking in at big4. I feel like most exit ops from strategy would be S&O industry roles but still can’t get these MBB firms out of my mind. Am I just overthinking this?

Left McKinsey for a Fintech corporate last year. Really disappointed to see bonuses given out (cash is equivalent to half month salary, equity vested over 5 yes also not great) after getting the 5/5 rating and business doing well overall. Doubting my decision to come to industry. Is this the norm? Feels really low as historically variable has been a big enough component for me to pay down loans/invest.
