1. Can I have my home address be in a different state while my home office is in a different state? My roommates and I are thinking of breaking our lease due to COVID-19 since we’re all quarantining out of state. I’m currently on OPT and my H1B will kick in in October. I am allowed to work from another state on OPT but I’m concerned on whether updating my home address to a different state will raise concerns.

CTR, contracts and department overhaul

our marketing dept is undergoing a complete overhaul. under old leadership, a $75k 12-mo contract was signed to a marketing group that handles our SEO, blog and everything Google Ads. All things I can and am in training to do. Current CTRs on G ads seem pitiful at no more than 0.75%. My meta ads coast around 4-6%. During this overhaul, would it be wise to not renew our contract, and negotiate for me to take over these roles and leverage a raise?

Question for folks with second homes: Considering buying a vacation home but would be primarily for family use. We currently have a primary residence with a mortgage balance of ~640K, so my understanding is I could only deduct the mortgage interest on 110K of the second mortgage to stay under the 750K cap. Are initial law firm consultations usually free? I’m on H1B and wanted to schedule an initial consultation with an immigration lawyer to discuss some GC options (outside of employment based) and was told I’d have to pay $200 for a consultation (45 mins session).

Am I being cheap for not wanting to pay that or are there firms out there that offer free consultations?
