McKinsey & Company Hi, I am working as a Sr. PM currently in FAANG with 6+ years of work experience and a MS stem degree. I am interested in exploring the management consulting space and seeking referrals for senior consultant and EM roles at McKinsey and BCG. Would really appreciate, if you're willing give that referral. Thanks in advance.

Do you have prior consulting experience? If not very unlikely you would be considered for EM role
No, I don't have consulting experience
If you're in an IC role, you'll probably struggle to come in as an EM with no consulting experience. You may be able to come in as an Expert but as an integrative EM you've almost no chance.
For reference I had over a decade of PM (product, not program) experience (non FAANG but good startups) and entered at Specialist (associate equivalent) level.
It is unlikely you'll have the skillset to succeed as an EM straight off the bat.
Gotcha! Makes sense. Thanks for the reply
Why the move? I’m working hard to go the opposite route 😭
I feel MBB is right for me. How about we refer each other, so we can move forward in our own direction? We can also set up some time to discuss about pursuing relevant opportunities.
I was a client facing consulting manager at Deloitte. Came in as an EM. I worked hard and did ok but it was hard. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re willing to put in a lot of extra work. EMs here have high expectations
Thanks for the reply
You can get hired as an expert, with compensation of expert, but you’ll effectively play an associate role for 1-2 studies till it’s clear you’re ready to EM. Note “experts” and “EMs” both “EM” at mckinsey
