Hi! If you had to choose one certification to get in 2023 would you do for PMP or SAFe? Any other certifications you would recommend?

I’m currently a program manager.

Both? You can get the safe in a few days and the PMP within 2-3 months.

The PMP will be more marketable. It’s basically the fast track to a 1-step level promotion. You might have to switch firms to truly benefit from the PMP though.

Industry certs like tableau and/or cloud computing could take you to the next level too!

ProSci Change Management Practitioner is a good one to get too - focused on helping plan for the impact of change on your people, and gives techniques on how to manage them effectively. Recognized by PMI (issuer of the PMP) but far fewer folks have it than do the PMP. I got my PMP first and then followed it with the CMP and honestly the latter is more useful day to day.

like

If you’re working in a company that practices Agile, then the SAFe certs might be more valuable. PMI does incorporate more agile and hybrid concepts into the curriculum, but over half of the exam is still going to center around waterfall project management concepts.

If you don’t already have them - virtual facilitation skills for remote and hybrid collaboration workshops
