I think it's been a very intellectually rewarding career path and I feel like I am a valuable employee at all of the companies I have worked for, plus I know how to fix stuff around the house ha ha. I would say sometimes certain companies may not respect your work as much or they may try to low ball you depending on how you carry yourself, but always pay attention to salary averages and negotiate for yourself. I don't think there are any major drawbacks about the job itself
Comes down to exactly what you want to do with Mechanical Engineering degree. IMO, ME can dip themselves into any disciplines and will excel greatly in it all.
With such wide range of skillset/flexibility the draw back would be picking a discipline that is not high demand (low pay). Others may find a different drawbacks from ME but mine is money if you really like a certain discipline that does pay well.
My advice is to know from the jump exactly what you want to do with the degree so you dont waste money/time. If you are going for a MS then it better be something highly technical that you can be the subject matter expert.
