Start treating this like a sales job: identify people who work at the places of interest and who have been successful there, reach out and develop a relationship, and get their help with the interviews.
I actually made a similar transition, so sharing what helped me:
Coming from Customer Success, you already have a big advantage, you understand customer problems, adoption, and value. What you need to build is the “pre-sales muscle.”
A few things that made the biggest difference for me:
Start shadowing Sales Engineers (demos, discovery calls, technical deep dives)
Learn how to translate business needs into solutions, not just support them post-sale
Practice demo storytelling, not features, but outcomes
Get comfortable with handling objections and thinking commercially, not just technically
Position your CS experience as value-driven, not support-driven
Also +1 to treating this like a sales motion, relationships and internal referrals matter a lot in breaking into SE roles.
