Bad. Everyone looks and thinks the same
This is why is hard for people to make it in the business. There might be lots of job available but they are never displayed out to the public because all they want are referrals. It's sad and silly honestly
Bad. Gives important people more soft power to bully, take revenge, manipulate. Had some awful bosses that I was scared to cross and this would be just another reason.
I think it sucks. It stops any sort of diversity if your whole department went to the same expensive ad school or worked at the same big agency together
Hire based on the work and your vibes regarding that person. Then ask people you really trust that may know them to see if there are any red flags. Giving referrals too much relevance is not good
Depends on the quality of the people making the referrals. The problem is a reliance on it and a belief that everyone providing them is qualified to.
Instead of learning how to get along with everyone, you’re just going to make sure everyone in your little echo chamber of an agency gets along with you. That can’t end well.
Good. You don't have to update your book as frequently.
What @LB1 said. In Chicago the recruiters make the rounds of the same 3-4 big agencies and tend to bring in the same freelance people over and over again. That’s why all of the work starts looking like extensions of the same things.
It’s life. Get over it
Anomaly only hires based off of referrals. So I've heard.
Bad.
