The Xi variant. Oh wait...

funnylike

D2 there is a international naming body that has selected omicron. People are specifically selecting the wrong name because it is the name of the Chinese leader. No different than calling it the china virus rather than the more common COVID.

None of the people hanging on to Xi cared the 8 of the other letters amounted to nothing. There is no standard for granting a letter, just a bunch of scientists decide "ehh, this one might be a one we want to track, let's give it a letter". They skipped Xi because it is a common last name and nu because it phonetically is similar to new. They could have just as easily said "ohh, these other two variants that we discover two weeks ago could be something, let's give them xi and nu". The effect would be the same.

I suppose the insinuation is that they skipped nu because there is some other world leader they didn't want to offend?

helpful

D) None of the above. Lambda was suspected as the most deadly but had a lower transmissibility so was overtaken by Delta. Jury is out on Omicron.

Trick question: we’ve only had a day to study omicron. And the data is still accumulating on everything else

like

It’s been out for a couple weeks now or more

Successful mutations/variants tend to be more contagious but less deadly, which IMO is a totally fine trade-off.

like

This wasn't true for Delta. Having seen it up close as it ravaged India in Q2'21 it was almost a different virus compared to the original in March 20

like

We don't know about omicron yet but the answer in the US if Alpha. It got running in Sept 2020 and wasn't over taken by delta until summer 2021. Under the assumption that once a strain is dominant, all deaths are attributable to that strain, we had more deaths from Sept 2020 to June-July 2021 than Feb 2020- Sept 2020 or post July.

It is unlikely that any new variant will surpass alpha because have vaccines and some new treatments.

Does anyone have experience interviewing with Deloitte Internal Services? I had my final interview a week and a half ago, and received positive feedback throughout. The hiring manager had positive things to say and mentioned they hoped to make a decision by the end of last week. It’s now Friday the week after. The role still shows as “Interviews in Process.” We did discuss potential start dates, but no salary. Any experience with receiving offers for an internal services role? Is this common?

Hi SpEd Teachers, is anyone else facing EXTREME staff shortages as a result of state funding? We are not able to meet my students' IEP requirements (not even close) due to not enough paraprofessionals and the district flat out refusing to hire more. I've lost 70+ hrs/week of para hours over the past few years and my students are really suffering. This leaves our district open to lawsuits, but the real problem is the state's education budget. What can we do?? This isn't going to fix itself.
