I think it feels more like an alien squirming and shifting instead of true kicks haha. I wouldn’t say more subtle just different movement.
Babies don’t “run out of room” to where it restricts their movement. Some days can be quieter than others but you should still do your kick counts and make sure you’re getting the amount your doctor instructs in the period of time.
If you’re worried at all, get checked out at L&D just to be safe. Would way rather it be nothing you did something about than something you did nothing about. 🤍
Babies do run out of room and their movements change. It happened to me at 39 weeks and I have two friends who it also happened to. We all went and were checked and not saying it’s not helpful to do kick counts but movements absolutely do change near the end.
Ooo they may be squeezed but they will ROLL!! My babes did (very slow) somersaults or would move an elbow and I’d feel it on some organ or even be able to see it. Towards the end, as they get into exit position, their little booty will be moving by your diaphragm. Mine were most active once I laid down (because normal movement lulls them to sleep most of the day) and I absolutely love it. Sometimes it was uncomfortable, particularly if my bladder was full, but it’s something I miss now that I’m post-pregnancies.

If you feel something is off, I highly recommend you get it checked out. By third trimester I kind of had an idea of my baby’s cycle, when she would wake and how long she slept and when she would be most active. Always better safe than sorry.
My guy was often quiet for long periods, but was obvious when he moved. I agree with it being more like alien moving. Also depends highly on baby position, mine was breech so definitely different than most baby's 3rd trimester position.
I would shine my iPhone flashlight on my stomach, and he would kick within 20 mins each time. lol That gave me a peace of mind.
Yeah it turns into more just shifting around, squirming, and pressing instead of kicks. The pattern around what times of day they get active will still stay pretty consistent, the movements just feel different.
