Thanks A1

Some will do straight salary, some commission only, and some a combination of both.

like

If you’re wanting someone to stay long, a reasonable base plus commission and good work culture is things I’ve found most important from working with solos and small firms

like

I’m in a southern metro area (think Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville size). What is competitive base? What kind of commission is common?

I am straight salary with a small bonus once the firm hit the yearly the revenue target. Then I get a year end bigger bonus based on how much the firm made for the year. Salary is predictable so that’s nice but a bit lower. That regularity is helpful but it’s also odd having a third of my income for the year come in December with that bonus.

like

Red flag, but I made 250k as a second year associate. I can overlook the lack of transparency for a while.

Found out today my toxic manager bad mouthed me to an HR rep in a different division. This correlated with his bad management and abusive behavior. Luckily the new manager I’ll soon be working with dismissed it. Her words of wisdom “reflect on what you could have done differently, you can only control your actions”. Need a sanity check here.

When I joined my current company, we were on a quarterly bonus structure with guaranteed payouts each quarter. This was, in fact, how the recruiter said he could meet my salary request.

The company just announced we are moving to annual payouts only, with no payments for 2023 until May 2024. There are no raises happening.

This amounts to 12% less money in my pocket in 2023 plus inflation.

Is this standard, or should I be looking for opportunities elsewhere?
