How do would you navigate this? Im trying hard not to inherit my manager's "enemies' in the office. I have no intention to be overly friendly but I am realizing that my job is easier when I collaborate more with them. I very well know they may only be doing this to spite my manager but our our depts rely on each other's works. How on earth do I go about this without either inheriting old enmity or creating new ones.

You approach it with maturity, graciousness, and a healthy dose of caution. I was in the same boat via who I replaced and while I managed to avoid many of those issues there's clear justified reasons to me why they are enemies. Some people are just nasty and determined to make life difficult and for people who can't or don't normally deal with people like that it's harder for them to navigate those relationships. I'd be firm but efficient and just make sure you observe how they are with yourself and others to maintain a healthy working relationship.

These are really practical steps! Thank you for sharing. I'd definitely be implementing them.

Everyone on my team is leaving the firm. The PPMD who hired me left the firm before my start date, now two seniors have left in the last 2 months. My team will be down to <3 with no manager/SM/PPMD. A Manager/PPMD from a diff. City is going taking our “office” over, so I’ll be the random staff that lives out of state but reports to them. What would you do?

Currently our marketing team is of one (me) and we outsource quite a bit of other tasks as we continue to grow. With that said, one of the tasks I am currently involved with is creating weekly emails from scratch and I am pretty darn good at them. Yet so many people (several in different teams) have requested to review my work before it’s sent. It’s unnecessary and makes the job less efficient. How can I politely and professionally decline their request?
