Odd that a district would go with most restrictive first. Are there some very concerning behaviors exhibited? Other handicapping conditions not mentioned (Ie medical?) No Pt mentioned but APE? That’s odd. Also is the student receiving ESL services? If no, why not. More information is needed here.
He had hypoxia at birth, but no other medical conditions since. He has Apraxia of speech. His cognitive and adaptive scores came back low, but I don’t agree with them. I saw much greater abilities than the testing showed. I believe his inability to answer verbally due to apraxia impacted his scores. I’d like to try him in a general class first before placing him in the special class. But everyone keeps saying special class because of the cog and adaptive. He will definitely need ESL services. He hasn’t attended school yet, so the school they want to send him to will have to figure that out.
Keep pushing for the LRE!!!
Agree, keep pushing LRE. My district is the complete opposite even if it means providing all the support the district can offer to stay in LRE. That would be infuriating to me too.
