USAJOBS for Federal govt jobs
You won't find much data on midlaw. If the firm is big enough, you may find some on NALP. You may be able to find old listing on LinkedIn or Indeed that say hours and pay. But usually it'll come from talking to people.
As far as finding a job, use your network while you clerk, particularly your judge, their former clerks, and other clerks in your district. Tell everyone where you want to be, ask for contacts there. Set up calls with whomever they connect you with. Tell those people where you want to be and ask if they have contacts there.
I'm currently clerking waaaayyyy far away from where I actually want to work. I asked my judge's former clerks and some of the lawyers in my district if they knew or went to school with anyone in the state I want to be in. They surprisingly did. Their contacts weren't in the firms or areas I was interested in, but they have in turn connected me with firms I'm interested in.
You may also have luck by just finding firms that look interesting and cold emailing. Obviously never ask for a job directly. Just get to know people, tell them when your clerkship is over, ask about their recruiting process.
Riley Safer in Chicago has a great reputation and loves former clerks! Some former BigLaw partners started the firm and I think their model is less intense than BigLaw. Goldman Ismail, Massey Gail and Coolidge might also be good options to consider if you like litigating. Best of luck!
Thanks! This is very helpful.
