I'm trying to train running 6x a week, working 65h a week. I have 4 trainings scheduled in working days with 2 of them done as a lunch break at WFH (~45-60mins) and 2 before work during office days (60-90 mins). Remaining two I do during weekends (~60-90mins). Actually I've managed to prepare for and complete my first ultramarathon with that routine. I guess the key is not the time, because if properly planned, you can do almost everything. You need to convince yourself that it's a priority for you and you'll be able to fit it in your schedule
I also have a similar schedule - training for an ironman.
Its possible to maintain a relationship as you can find ways to have your partner participate with you in some of the activities, it is difficult but have to get creative for sure. Different ballgame if you were a single individual looking to find a significant other. Cant speak to that as I got into this routine while already in a relationship.
Some food for thought
You just do it.
Go to the gym. Tell yourself it’s not optional. Realize you’ll make sacrifices in your personal/social life to get there. If that’s worth it for you it is, if it’s not it’s not. But there is no other way
Everyone in this thread is right. You just fit it in and make it a priority. Block time off in your calendar if you need to, that's something I do to help me stay accountable. I know my wellbeing is important and I feel so much worse mentally and physically when I don't work out. 10 years in consulting and this has been a constant, anytime I take a couple of months off exercising I feel terrible. I'm 6 months pregnant now and still exercising 4x a week (obviously less intensity 😄) but it's just something you need to prioritize just like client meetings, doctors appointments, etc.
Invest in a trianer. The investment will help keep you motivated to show up and the expertise will help you explore new routines.
This! I got a virtual trainer from india and keeps me disciplined 5 days a week every morning
If you’re working from home hit the gym for a quick 30min workout midday during lunch assuming you have no calls then (easier said than done as my gym is in my building) can also do workout tapes (p90x, insanity, etc)
I may or may not have spent some meetings on the elliptical
It’s so hard to make changes/start, but once it’s a routine to go 5x a week, there’s not even a second thought. I’d say start small, like aim for 1x a week even, then increase as you are getting the benefits of being physically active, and then eventually you’ll be going multiple times a week and not even think twice :)
My trainer (a multiple time Mr Olympia winner) has summarized this as saying you EARN the condition you’re in by finding the right balance of Exercise, Attitude, Rest, and Nutrition. The Attitude part is adopting a no-excuses, positive progress, self discipline - which includes keeping the work side of your life in balance. For me, during the week, I get up at 4:45 am go to the gym and workout with weights and do cardio for 90 minutes from 5:15 - 6:45. Work from 8:00 - 5:30. Have dinner before 7:00 pm and am heading to bed by 8:30 - 9:00 pm to get as close to 8 hours of sleep as possible. Of course, there are times I need to shift this around other commitments. However, I’ve found the trick is to do everything you can to stick to a consistent, rigorous schedule.
Forgot to add, (when working from my base city), if I know I won’t have time to cook healthy meals, I order cooked meals from CookUnity.. they just need to be popped in the microwave/oven for 20mins and no prep involved. They have a ton of menu options and you can filter by macros/dietary needs. I’ve found it super helpful for my goals!
I try to play a sport 2-3 times a week. I supplement with a quick run and a bike ride. I’m able to get out about 5 days a week doing this. You just need to make it a priority. I’ll work 8-5, exercise, and then work 9 til whenever. My recovery on Whoop is never good (I have sleep debt), but I always hit my optimal strain.
Go to the gym after work or set an expectation with your team that if you don’t go to the gym, you won’t be able to function properly. I’ve told my team that I need my hour/ 2 hours at the gym almost daily and if they want me to function properly at work, they need to accommodate that. My team is great and they always try to make sure I get that time off during the day, whether it is in the morning, afternoon, or evening. I can always continue the work after I get back from my workout.
A travel now and then just means a week (4-5 days to be exact of rest that your body needs). I tend to eat healthy during this time. I know we get a lot of money for food, so I eat expensive salads, and foods that contain protein (steaks, burgers etc)
Lotta ways man.
Wake up early and workout before work. Try to be up around 6am and get your 45 min - 1 hour workout at least 4 times a week.
Orangetheory or CrossFit had locations a lot of places with a range of classes. I opt to do the 5am to knock them out and leaves me not feeling guilty at client. happy hours.
We don’t. It’s impossible with all that eating out
My motivation: Without health, it is hard to have a good life, including being able to work
Commitment and consistency for 30 days. After that it becomes a daily habit
Running, body weight exercises, and have a peloton.
Things like that that require minimal travel/commute time are super helpful.
5:00 AM workouts and cook your food. 💯
I wake up at 5:45a every day and run for 2-3 miles before logging in at 7. Work out with weights 2-3x a week. You just need to make time for it and wake up a bit earlier. Prioritize your health, it’s more important than your job.

You have to be very Disciplined! Honestly, it’s not easy at all - However, I stay fit because I worked out a schedule that worked for me.
6am - 7am - Run/weight training
Lunch - if I miss my morning workout - I would workout during lunch some days.
8pm - 10pm - Workout

Where is the 50-55 hrs/week attainable realistically over a long time? Defo not in MBB across Central Europe
Re answer - for me thorough planning and fixed slots in calendar that I communicate with PLs upfront make it possible
