I'm trying to train running 6x a week, working 65h a week. I have 4 trainings scheduled in working days with 2 of them done as a lunch break at WFH (~45-60mins) and 2 before work during office days (60-90 mins). Remaining two I do during weekends (~60-90mins). Actually I've managed to prepare for and complete my first ultramarathon with that routine. I guess the key is not the time, because if properly planned, you can do almost everything. You need to convince yourself that it's a priority for you and you'll be able to fit it in your schedule
I also have a similar schedule - training for an ironman.
Its possible to maintain a relationship as you can find ways to have your partner participate with you in some of the activities, it is difficult but have to get creative for sure. Different ballgame if you were a single individual looking to find a significant other. Cant speak to that as I got into this routine while already in a relationship.
Some food for thought
You just do it.
Go to the gym. Tell yourself it’s not optional. Realize you’ll make sacrifices in your personal/social life to get there. If that’s worth it for you it is, if it’s not it’s not. But there is no other way
Everyone in this thread is right. You just fit it in and make it a priority. Block time off in your calendar if you need to, that's something I do to help me stay accountable. I know my wellbeing is important and I feel so much worse mentally and physically when I don't work out. 10 years in consulting and this has been a constant, anytime I take a couple of months off exercising I feel terrible. I'm 6 months pregnant now and still exercising 4x a week (obviously less intensity 😄) but it's just something you need to prioritize just like client meetings, doctors appointments, etc.
50-55?? 😭
😭
Sleep less.
Sleep faster*
Forced habits. Get 4-5k steps in before calls. Hit the gym early or late. Healthy eating. Cut out drinking and sugar. Better sleep and time management to allow for sleep.
Trained 4x a week and competed at a national level in my sport whilst living in a hotel 4 nights a week for consulting work.
Just got to make the time for it, sometimes I'd split a session in half to make it work, do some before work, then squeeze in another 30-45 mins while I waited for my dinner to be delivered.
It helped to have multiple gym memberships, one for a budget nationwide chain for on the road, another for at home.
I run away
Working over 40 is wack lol. Take less responsibility.

I usually wake up at 5ish and do my workouts cardio and then weights. I have a gym in my house but it’s not necessary all you need is a living room and a few good hand weights. After my workout I eat breakfast and get ready for my daily 8 am call. Around lunch time I take the dogs for a walk through the neighborhood and I’m also known to walk on my treadmill on calls I know I don’t have to be active on and I’m just listening and chiming in from time to time. I also meal prep on sundays so breakfast and lunch are already prepared so that helps me from DoorDashing!!!
Stay at a big hotel made for conferences if you’re in a big city - they always have the best gyms. Make the workout part of your routine. Pocket the per diem rather than spending on nice dinners. Take a walk in between meetings. It’s all about getting into a routine.
The best way to do it is to exit into tech so you get a normal ~40hr work week life.
Morning workouts, meal prepping or going shopping ahead of time with an idea of quick (30 mins or less) meals you can make during the week. Find a gym you like at your travel location and keep up the morning workout routine or use the hotel gym. Easy on the alcohol if you drink, especially while traveling and doing team dinners. Also identify stores or restaurants at your travel location where you can get some good meals and snacks or packing some with you.
Exercise in the morning and eat less/healthier
Just 30 min 3-4 times a day makes a big difference in health
Oh yeah meant 3-4 times a week hahaha
I don’t.
I taped my laptop to an exercise bike for meetings I don't need to be in
How does it reach the pedals?
Try staying for with a 100 work week. You could work out 40 hours a week and it would be less than the bankers.
PW2 we get it, you’re here to humblebrag. OP was asking for advice on staying fit while working in the industry.
No one is ever too busy. It’s all a matter of priority. If staying fit is important to you, you’ll make time.
Yeah I workout but pretty much everyday but have no time for anything else in my life atleast on the weekdays
Getting an oculus/VR was a game changer- incredible way to get a serious workout from hotel room/home with no other equipment/ no travel time to gym etc.
