I did this a few years back. Just apply apply apply… worse they can say is “no”.
Also, be willing to relocate. Sometimes the smaller more rural locations have a hard time attracting applicants so they are more willing to train on the job.
Take a PRN role and/or be willing to work 2nd and 3rd shift.
Especially in combo with getting a referral from an employee that works at the hospital in which you desire to work
go to RxProStaff.com and they have an in person IV certification and a 5 day hospital crash course you can take and put on your resume
Sometimes it is by taking a less desirable role such as Overnights and then working from there. I know a few people who were successful in transitioning this way
I’d love to know! I can’t even get an interview with connections, and I do have IV experience.
It doesn’t help that in my area the large hospital chain now requires a PharmD, so F you to all of us in our 40’s looking to change practice settings. I have 20 years of LTC experience and just got rejected for a per diem at their rehab hospital without even an interview.
I would go back and get your pharmd if that’s the case. I did a residency late 40s - it has helped me and is another option. Having said that, when I apply for something different, the HR algorithms still stop me too and I personally see age as a factor I have to overcome with extra qualifications.
Take a per diem at a local community hospital. Go to local pharmacy association meet ups and network. Most times you get in by who you know.
