How long did you work up up to giving birth? I can take up to four weeks for disability, any reason not to take all of it?

I took all 4 (ended up 3.5 because baby came early) and don’t regret it at all. It was really valuable time to rest and prepare. Childbirth is no joke and there is so much you won’t be able to do after the baby comes. I was also all but useless by 38 weeks or so and wouldn’t have been effective at work at all.

Thanks for this and I’m glad you were able to. Feeling for all the women on this thread who worked up to the very end!

Up until the day before. I wanted all leave to be with my baby.

I worked until my water broke (at home while I was getting ready for work, thank god). I wanted all the time off postpartum.

My firm doesn’t reduce leave after birth if you take disability before so I took all four weeks before. Strongly recommend if it’s an option. My body felt so much better not sitting at a desk all day. Swelling substantially improved. Also gave me more
Time to finalize baby prep, do exercises for birth, etc

NY gives up to four weeks before birth and that doesn’t take away from post-birth leave. I’m taking three weeks before my scheduled induction to keep my blood pressure down.

My view is take as much as possible - the few additional weeks will be a blip for your firm but may very well save you and/or your baby from pregnancy complications.

I took one and then two weeks before my babies were born! Wish I would have taken more.

In CA so get the 4 weeks before the due date and doesn't affect after. I only took a week with my first. Wish I had taken longer because I felt sick that whole week ahead of her arrival. With my second I decided to take 3 weeks before the due date. He came my second to last day of work so I left work and had a baby an hour later. Oops. If you can take the time before the baby and it doesn't affect how much time you get after they come, take it!! If you feel great, then you get time to be by yourself and prepare and enjoy, if you don't feel great, you will have time to rest. Either way, you deserve that time before the baby comes.

I worked up to going to the hospital, mostly sending emails letting people know that baby was on the way (first time was after a full day of work and second time was early in the morning when I started feeling contractions). I wasn’t able to take maternity leave before the baby arrived though, and I didn’t know there was an option to take time off before due date otherwise I would have at least for my second.

Will taking those four week take away from time after the baby, or are they designated pre-natal leave? If they won’t take away, then I’d take a few weeks off before birth, though you don’t really know when it’ll happen unless you have a planned C-section.

I worked until the day before I gave birth, which was a Friday night. I was already have contractions and knew it was close, so I tried to wrap up what I had left. I went to the hospital Saturday night to have a baby shortly after.

Worked in the hospital after my water broke but that was because it my baby came a month early and I had to send emails out so people knew where I was on assignments to cover… wasn’t expecting the early arrival 😅

Worked until the day before because baby came a bit early. I felt fine to work and the nursery was ready.

My body hurts, my stomach is in knots, my head hurts. How is it that I have to mend a broken heart but also meet my billable hours lmao

One of the team member has applied leaves for continuous 3 days this month. Later she applied for a 15 days leave saying a medical emergency. Both the leaves were rejected from her manager saying connect with HR. though she is on leave without PM leave approval and this is not even prior notice to the team.
Now'what and all would be the consequences she might face. Is there any chance of these things are being escalated? Please advise!

My school deliberately cut the number of classes that the specials teachers teach so that we could be building subs for quarantined and sick teachers (we are hybrid). So... I teach fewer classes (which is a relief because specials teachers teach way more classes than core teachers normally) but I'm pulled for most of my planning periods to babysit classes. I need my planning periods so I can redo my ENTIRE curriculum... and I just feel unappreciated, used, and nothing more than a babysitter.

I am 29F and earning 13LPA. I have been working for 4 years of which 3.5 years I had very low pay and close to 0 savings. I have been able to save 6L now.

My investments below:
* Elss funds - 2 (total 1.5L annually)
* Large cap mutual funds - 6 (total 40K sip per month) current portfolio of 4L
* FDs - 2 of 25K each
*Medical insurance - company provided

Can someone advice if this is a good investment plan for future? What can I do better? Do I need another Insurance? Where else to invest?

Anyone have one of those cushy jobs that isn’t fast paced and actually has some level of work life balance but also pays decently? I’m tired of busting my ass and churning out work, being burnt out, with no end in sight.
I’m ready to switch industries or anything to have things be more relaxed - I just can’t take a pay cut. Any advice or ideas aside from accepting the slow death of being overworked forever?
