Do other Big 4 firms have a better culture? I’m in a very large office and I am one of two people in the office on this floor right now… I’m coming up on a year at EY and am sick of having zero camaraderie at work.

Most people don’t work from the office that often anymore - especially Monday’s. I don’t think going to any other B4 firm would change that.

like

I have been getting great coaching and camaraderie both in technical day-to-day work and long-term career progress. I personally enjoy wfh and the flexibility (some people choose to go in 1-2 days/week)

like

Fortunately, not GT.

Unfortunately, it’s something that disappeared with COVID

I would try to find a team that meets in the office frequently but yea everyone hates getting dressed and commuting 😹

like

Yeah definitely seems like a post-COVID experience… I know my seniors all have close work friends and say they made those in training/internships which is just something we didn’t get. And yeah- definitely appreciate a team who is flexible yet still likes going into the office somewhat regularly I think it makes a huge difference! Totally don’t need to go into the office daily or even the majority of the week, but would be nice to not feel so isolated

like

I guess it depends on the office. I feel similarly. I enjoy my co-workers and I see them in the office, but there is a huge gap on the number of charge hours being completed. Some are at 1200 charge hours for the year, while others are at 1800 charge hours for the year. Same pay. 1/3 the effort.

like

National firms care more about heart then math 😤

All Big 4 are the same. Varies team to team. Camaraderie helps in busy season.

like

Come to BDO. We have weekly office lunches, teams meet in the office to work, and lots of people are enjoying the camaraderie. DM me if you want a referral :-)

funny

You have to make an effort to find camaraderie. No, you have to make an effort to network and get to know people. I’ve made some great friends across multiple teams during wfh. This is true regardless of which big 4 you work in since all of them are following basically the same work from home polices

Yeah, I’ve definitely been putting in the effort and reaching out to people/trying to get as involved in different things as possible. Hopefully it’s just something that takes time and will start to benefit me soon

No one wants to me to the office on monday lol. I agree to your point though. It's hard to make relationships. You just gotta try hard.

I am sure you already know, but EY is a very large firm. I am in SaT and I don't know anyone in Audit or Tax and there are no overlaps with them unless there are office wide events which are pretty rare. Even within SaT, I only hang out with my team members.

Mondays and Fridays are dead, at least in the Chicago office. Tuesday -Thursday are pretty busy

Monday - Everyone's tired. Friday - bad traffic & personal plans after the work.. so

All the firms are like this right now except like NYC.

What would you do if you didn’t need money? I have a fair amount coming one day and don’t actually need to work to live a good life (middle / upper-middle class). I work because of this vague notion of “ambition” and because everyone I grew up around is highly competitive and hard driving. I just feel unhappy so often and am wondering what this is all leading to. Scared I’m wasting my life being unhappy / in turmoil cause it’s what my culture wants me to do.

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

I mean who would say I have never in my life wanted to tell someone off. Are they looking for honesty? Any HR people who can tell us what the "grades" look like? How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.
