Too late you’re stuck
If you are just trying to get into IT consulting, maybe try getting a relevant cert and network network network first before investing all that money and time to go back to school
Additional education is not the only option for transitioning to an IT Engineering/cloud computing role. I would seek out opportunities to perform IT SOx testing first, which will get you familiar with the basics of ITGCs. That’s a good foundation to have in any other role. Then seek out opportunities either within your firm or outside of it, to move into an internal audit role focused on IT Compliance. In the meantime, do some free online courses in coding and engineering to build your skills.
There's nothing to worry about. You can switch whenever you are ready. Don't stress yourself too much :)
What do you do now
External Sox audit
The beauty of IT engineering is that you don't have to have an engineering degree. I work with many people who could get their foot in the door with a certificate. Maybe that can be an approach you can try.
Don't worry too much about getting stuck. SOX is an easy way to get your foot in the door and pivot elsewhere within IT audit, IT security etc.
I agree, I think it's a pretty logical flow so you should be able to pivot out pretty easily. But you're never stuck really! You could also switch roles earlier if you're feeling it
You could look into moving or help with IT SOX audit: this could easily help you shift to IT consulting
You won't, OP. You can transition to IT audit after that. There's nothing to worry about :)
