There’s a lot of pressure not to take it though and it can directly impact your bonus, very different metrics from mbb
That’s good! I had friends told that was the explicit reason by their RP when I was there, and most of the people I knew felt that way. I am sure it’s practice-dependent so glad you do not have that experience
I’ve had no qualms taking my PTO over the past 2 years. My teams have also been respectful, whether it’s me taking a day off or 2 weeks. Utilization is a metric that’s tracked, but it’s more of a check the box (did you reach #% or not). S& also bills 10 hr days and the utilization denominator is based on 8 hr days, so we have a built-in “buffer” if you will

That makes sense. I'd expect S& to have a lower effective target in terms of days due to the shorter average project duration.
Dependong on practice, many consultants only roll off projects once or twice a year. Strategy consultants may have to roll off five projects. Naturally, strategy consultants, on average, would have more days on bench than somebody on a year-long project.
Senior associates get 15 to start. After 2 years it bumps up to 22 days. Not sure but manager may start at 22. Agree with McK. It's not unusual for staff to take vacation only because they're about to reach the accruing cap and essentially lose the time. Reason being that utilization is an important input for your annual review
I think I had 24/yr after 3 yrs there, believe you start with 15 or 19 and it goes up with tenure
