Freelance can be very lucrative and you make your own schedule.
I once had a guy smash a bottle and jump over the bar at me because I had to cut him off. I've had some bad days in advertising, but I've never had someone try to kill me with brief.
Have you been a waiter? It's stressful AF. In fact my experience in food service is what keeps advertising in perspective. Like the fact you're chilling on your phone at work, looking at this right now is actually a luxury...
Following.
Yep. This industry once had fantastic benefits, respectable bonuses, excellent compensation, glamorous travel, and high growth. Goodbye glory days.
I'm wondering about dog walking personally.
Why not just move into a lower-stress job? I swear, once I've had my fill of brand work, I'm off to a more specialized agency with hyper prescriptive deliverables (I'm looking at you, banner factories and shopper marketing shops). Some buds of mine in shopper make *bank*, and a late night for them is 8pm.
SC1 - I wish I could get paid to walk my own dog. I'd do that.
@OP same. Really I just wanna get paid to hang out with her.
My friend is a freelance designer, but has a pretty solid resume in the restaurant industry. She makes more money waitressing and managing restaurants than designing. But it's not all bright -- restaurants have terrible hours. Then again, if you're working late every nights anyway, might as well have the day off 🤷🏼♀️
I know several servers making $55k+, my roommate is one and she walks dogs on the side to supplement that income.
A former coworker made some extra $$$ using some dogwalking app, like Uber for dog walkers. Not sure of the name though
WAG?
I'm considering becoming a wag walker if this freelance thing doesn't work out.
Also appreciate not having to clean up messes of all variety.
Why not use your skills on thumbtack
Part of it is where you work and who you work for.
